The Franklin Park Arts Center Is hosting a family-oriented program to help ring in the new year.
The evening begins with Peter McCory, the One-Man Band, leading the audience in song and inviting members to play along.
Treats and face-painting will be offered during intermission in the lobby.
Then American Magic Lantern Theater will presenti “A Victorian New Year’s Celebration” in a performance that was hi-tech in the 1890s. Similar to a slide projector, the magic lantern slides are 3-inch circular glass plates painted in color by hand and framed in wood. The show will feature live music such as Deck the Halls, Mighty Lak’ a Rose and Mummers Parade. The American Magic-Lantern Theater is the nation’s only touring theater company recreating Victorian magic-lantern shows and one of only three such companies in the world.
Then we will count down to “midnight” complete with a balloon drop and noisemakers. Parents will be home in time to put the kids to bed and still watch the festivities in Times Square.
The event runs from 7-9 p.m. Monday Dec. 31. Tickets are $10 per person, $35 for a family of four or more.
