This weekend marks the end of an era with the final installation of the Lucketts Fair. Although perhaps bittersweet, a visit will likely land you firmly on the sweet side, as it’s tough to remain weepy in the face of so many pies and such excellent toe-tappin’ bluegrass. We’re also looking at what promises to be one of the best Acoustic on the Green shows of the season this Saturday! Let’s get to it!
A Fair is a Veritable Smorgasbord…
Each August for the past 45 years, the little town north of Leesburg has transformed into a quaint wonderland of homemade food, dancing, kid’s activities and the finest bluegrass music around. August 19 and 20, you can experience this rural Loudoun tradition for yourself… for the final time. Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. both days, visitors will enjoy all the charm this venerable fair has to offer, from pony rides and biggest veggie contests to antiques displays, zoo animals, a hay bale maze and bluegrass, bluegrass, bluegrass. “In a digital world, it’s a little taste of our analog past—just kind of unplugging and focusing on the simple things in life,” Lucketts PTA President and fair organizer Amy Tribié said in a recent interview with Loudoun Now’s Jan Mercker. Sounds perfectly wonderful to me. Admission is $7 per person for visitors ages 8 and older—find a full schedule, directions and other fair details at theluckettsfair.com.
Saturday Evening Delight
The man, the myth, the legend, our own Jon Carroll, returns to the Town Green Saturday for what is guaranteed to be a fantastic Acoustic on the Green performance. Carroll, well known to anyone paying attention to the Loudoun (and worldwide, really) music scene, is always captivating with his incredible musicianship and witty banter—Saturday he’ll be joined by young singer/songwriter Teddy Chipouras and perhaps some other special, unannounced guests. After Saturday’s show there’s but one more AOTG performance in the works—details are available here.
