After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Lovettsville Oktoberfest is back Sept. 23-24 for its 27th annual festival.

Nestled in a quiet country setting at the top of Loudoun County, the “Top Town in Virginia” sits just south of the Potomac River, hugging the Maryland border. The “German Settlement” is known for their award-winning Oktoberfest and, in 2018, Lovettsville Oktoberfest was named as one of the 28 best Oktoberfests in the world. This year, Lovettsville is roaring back with a long-anticipated return that includes all your traditional favorites.

On Friday night, get ready to rock to The Reflex at 80’s Night on the Town Green. Food trucks will be offering authentic German food and the Lovettsville Lions Club will offer a variety of home cooked specialties at the Lovettsville Volunteer Fire & Rescue Station as they host their annual Royalty Competition to determine the 2022 Lovettsville Oktoberfest King & Queen. The Ceremonial Keg Tapping and Opening Ceremony kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the Walker Pavilion on the Town Green before The Reflex takes the stage to officially open the weekend.

Saturday fun begins early with a 5K Race and a Kids Fun Run at the new Lovettsville Park, followed by an Oktoberfest Pancake Breakfast at Lovettsville Elementary School. Stop by local attractions in and near Lovettsville such as the Lovettsville Vintage Aerodrome and the Lovettsville Game Protective Association for additional activities before moving over to the Town Hall or Town Green for the main events.

Lovettsville Kinderfest joins the fun once again as part of the Lovettsville Oktoberfest celebration. Situated on the Town Hall property, this year’s Kinderfest will feature its own tent, food and drink vendors, entertainment, and a host of free activities for children. Be sure to stop by the information booth to grab your Kinderfest T-shirt.

Always a crowd favorite, get your seats early at the new location for the fastest 30-foot dash on 3-inch legs. That’s right, Lovettsville Oktoberfest Wiener Dog Races are back! This year’s race will be held at Zoldos Square, on the “Squirkle.” There will be heats at 2:00pm and 4:00pm followed immediately by the Championship Race and the crowning of the 2022 Wiener Dog Champion.

Lovettsville Oktoberfest’s main Biergarten is also back as the main attraction. Spend the day and night with friends at the Munich-style outdoor Biergarten while listening to an eclectic mix of music. The Washington Saengerbund, a tradition for the past 25 years, will once again be serving authentic German food. The Alte Kameraden Band and the Alt Washingtonia Schuhplattler will be there with their traditional dances, marches, and songs to launch you into the Oktoberfest spirit. Enjoy a day filled with food, music, and fun as you visit vendors along the Town Green, then stick around for RockToberFest with music by two great local acts, including first-time headliners, Lovettsville’s own Ghost Pepper. Participate in Lovettsville Oktoberfest evening traditions, including stein hauling and hoisting and a record-breaking attempt at the most people singing Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Go to.LovettsvilleOktoberfest.com for a full schedule, lists of vendors, maps, and more as you plan your trip to Lovettsville. As always, parking and admission are free. For a limited time, you can also pre-purchase beer tickets, pre-order discounted merchandise, sign up to volunteer, and/or enter to win a Luxury Oktoberfest Experience that includes a two-night stay at the Lansdowne Resort and Spa plus a dedicated Limo to help you arrive to the festival in style.
