Judgment day is coming for two dozen hopeful contestants in the annual Ashburn’s Got Talent! competition.
It is the third year that the event, created by the owners of Blend Coffee Bar in Broadlands, will put the spotlight on local talent and to support the community. Proceeds raised will go to improve mental health issues for children and teens in Loudoun County.
Starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at Blend, 24 performers will step up to the mic in hopes of advancing to the final round June 1. The evening will be hosted by Elaine Espinola, Mrs. DC America 2015.
The semi-finalists were selected during auditions in April. Making the cut were Alex Cady, Ani Dykes, Becca and Claire, Carson Blake, Daniel Mccurdy, Diego Bly, Ellie Jahr, Emily and Tomy, Ethan Clark, Farris Hallaj, Grace Carr, Caryn Switaj, Jenna Moser, Jintameiko, Joanna Kim, John Yap, Nicole Farnsworth, Ramaan Insari, Sahanna Sethu, Shree, Sofia Cipolloni, Sohil Adyanthaya, Tori Lord, and Zoey Birman. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
The competition is judged by area music instructors and singer-songwriters: Faiza Alam, co-founder and guitar instructor for Create More Music Studios; Ron Goad, a retired teacher who has served as a board member of several arts-related nonprofit organizations, including vice president of The Songwriters’ Association of Washington, The Folk Club of Reston-Herndon, Frederick Acoustic Music Enterprise and Friend of Focus; Leslie Hollander, a classically trained professional actress who has performed on and off Broadway, regionally, and for years at the Kennedy Center; Alex Minton, co-owner and teacher at Mintons Academy of Music; Bobbe Shore, who has performed in musical theatre and performs with Bobbe Shore and First Call; and Tina Smothers, the vocal and theater director at Studio Bleu Dance Center.
The finals on June 1 will be hosted by Brandon Diaz, the Ashburn musician who gained national attention last year as a contestant on American Idol.
