After two days of auditions last weekend, two dozen contestants remain in play for this year’s Ashburn’s Got Talent! Competition.
The program, created by the owners of Blend Coffee Bar in Broadlands to put the spotlight on local talent and to support the community, is in its third year.
The first round of auditions was held Friday and Saturday, with 24 performers advancing to the semi-finals that will be held May 18.
Making the cut was Alex Cady, Ani Dykes, Becca And Claire, Carson Blake, Daniel Mccurdy, Diego Bly, Ellie Jahr, Emily And Tomy, Ethan Clark, Farris Hallaj, Grace Carr, Caryn Switaj, Jenna Moser, Jintameiko, Joanna Kim, John Yap, Nicole Farnsworth, Ramaan Insari, Sahanna Sethu, Shree, Sofia Cipolloni, Sohil Adyanthaya, Tori Lord, and Zoey Birman. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
The competition is judged by area music instructors and singer-songwriters: Faiza Alam, co-founder and guitar instructor for Create More Music Studios; Ron Goad is a retired teacher who has served as a board member of several arts-related nonprofit organizations, including VP of The Songwriters’ Association of Washington, The Folk Club of Reston-Herndon, Frederick Acoustic Music Enterprise and Friend of Focus; Leslie Hollander, a classically trained professional actress who has performed on and off Broadway, regionally, and for years at the Kennedy Center; Alex Minton, co-owner and teacher of Mintons Academy of Music; Bobbe Shore, who has performed in musical theatre and performs with Bobbe Shore and First Call; and Tina Smothersis the vocal and theater director at Studio Bleu Dance Center.
Elaine Espinola, Mrs. DC America 2015, will host the semi-finals on May 18 starting at 6 p.m.
The finals on June 1 will be hosted by Brandon Diaz, the Ashburn musician who gained national attention last year as a contestant on American Idol.
Blend Coffee Bar is located at 43170 Southern Walk Plaza #120 in Broadlands.
