The threat of heavy rain and flooding has put a damper on Purcellville’s big holiday plans this weekend, prompting the cancellation of its popular parade.
However, there are other programs aimed at getting residents in the Christmas spirit. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board will offer an ornament decorating workshop on Saturday at the train station from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with Santa expected to make an appearance from 1:30-3 p.m.
Also the annual Lego train display will be at the Bush Tabernacle this year from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with face painting, live music and an appearance from Santa from 4-6 p.m.
The town’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board—on Friday, Dec. 14 from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 16 from 5-8 p.m.—will offer its annual Holiday Lights Tours, which is free to all, will begin at town hall and take attendees through the community for about 40 minutes. A limited number of tickets will be handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis for each hour of the tours. Discover Purcellville will also be sponsoring the lights contest for a second consecutive year.
