Loudoun’s tastiest community fundraiser is just a week away and—while the organizers are hoping for strong support for YMCA Loudoun County programs—the area’s top chefs are hoping to wow the audience and win the top prizes with their creations.
Chocolates Galore and More is the YMCA’s largest fundraiser and allows the organization to serve everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
“The most important aspect of this event is that the raised funds directly benefits working parents who struggle to provide a safe, caring environment for their children,” said Business Director Kasia Bochenek. The event proceeds fund the YMCA Loudoun County’s Caring for Community Program, which provides scholarships and financial assistance to enable all children, regardless of family income, to participate in a variety of vital YMCA programs such as preschool, after-school and summer camp programs.
Last year, support from Chocolates Galore and others allowed the YMCA to support 162 children through its preschool-early learning program, after school programs and summer camps.
“YMCA Loudoun believes that every child has a right to a safe environment and learning activities that extend beyond the home and classroom. At the same time parents gain peace of mind knowing that their child is safe under our care, and that their children will be interacting with, and receiving support from, caring mentors and individuals,” Bochenek said.
”I was a Y kid in Loudoun, so I’m familiar with the great work the Y does every day and the quality programs that are offered to families. I’m a product of the system,” said Rusty Foster, who today serves as the chairman of the YMCA Loudoun County. “Every dollar raised from this event stays in Loudoun and assists families in providing quality education for their child. It’s important for the community to witness the great work that the Y does in Loudoun first hand.”
From its inception three decades ago, YMCA Chocolates Galore & More quickly became one of the county’s most popular wintertime social events.
Those attending next Friday’s event will not only find their sweet tooths well-satisfied, they, along with five professional food critics, will determine the winners of the night’s competitions—Best Taste and Best Presentation—and award year-long bragging rights to the winners.
