The NFL season has come to an end, leaving many crestfallen football fans with gaps in their Sunday schedules. Fortunately, those in need of weekend amusement can find it Sunday at Sterling’s Twinpanzee Brewing Co., where they can enjoy a beer, catch some live music, and help raise funds for a worthy cause.
From 3 to 6 p.m., Twinpanzee Brewing will be sponsoring Primates 4 Primates, a fundraiser for the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection organization. Proceeds from the event will be donated to help the LCRP build Liberia’s first permanent chimpanzee sanctuary, an effort that is direly needed in the region.
Liberia is home to West Africa’s second-largest chimpanzee population. The species faces a number of threats, however, and is dwindling due in part to illegal bushmeat and pet trading as well as habitat destruction. The International Union for Conservation of Nature, the globe’s leading authority on wildlife conservation status, now classifies chimpanzees as an endangered species. A permanent sanctuary would help to reverse this trend and make Liberia a much safer place for its chimpanzees.
Primates 4 Primates, which Twinpanzee hopes will be its “first of many fundraisers in 2018 to benefit primate centric organizations,” will provide chances to both donate to the LRCP’s cause and experience weekend entertainment for the whole family. Smithsonian photographer Kristi Odom will be exhibiting and selling her photographs, music will be provided by rock band No Quick Fix, Twinpanzee will release a limited edition brew in celebration of the event, and Blue City Food will be selling Indian cuisine at the brewery.
