First, Happy New Year! So glad you’re all here with us in 2018—let’s resolve to make it as enjoyable as we’re able.
Now, on to the cold—freezing cold, actually—hard facts of this year thus far: it’s too damn cold to Get Out (!) much of anywhere! Friends, I am a fan of staying cozy, and never has one of my many life mantras been proven more airtight—”anything is better in bed under a warm blanket.” This includes working, eating, sleeping—even receiving friends and media, just ask John and Yoko.
So, it is with that in mind that I offer you this one, potentially fascinating event with which to spice up your weekend, this Saturday night temptation to lure you away from Netflix: The Amish Outlaws, featuring at Leesburg’s Tally Ho Theater.
Here we have six “brothers,” bonded together through their rejection of the Amish lifestyle. All ventured out when it came time for Rumspringa—an event in Amish tradition marking the transition into adulthood, when young women and men are encouraged to “live free of the strict Amish code of conduct before deciding if they want to come back and be baptized into the Amish church,” explains the Outlaws website. “Surprisingly, virtually all of the youths return. But sometimes they don’t.” These guys didn’t.
What audiences will find are half a dozen Brothers in full Amish garb, rocking out a set list that can and does include everything from Chumbawumba to Elvis Presley, Styx, Bob Marley, Flo Rida and others. These guys clearly love to have a good time, and delight in thrilling their audiences both with their musical fluidity, as well as tales of growing up Amish.
Doors open at 7 p.m. with tickets set at $10 per person. As always, libations and snacks are available for purchase.
Bundle up, Get Out (!) and enjoy!
