Folks, December is upon us and that means the holiday scene has officially arrived in Loudoun. This weekend sees tree lighting ceremonies, parades and craft shows across the county, so get your winter woolies ready for a weekend of winter fun!

Big Ol’ Holiday Happenings Round-Up

An early Christmas gift came to your Entertainment Emissary this week in the form of Jan Mercker’s robust research. Loudoun Now’s holiday angel on the community beat has done the leg work and assembled a fabulous assortment of festivities from which to choose this weekend—I shall include them below!

One other item of note—Dec. 1 is First Friday in Leesburg, and many of the more than 50 activities going on that evening will also have a holiday theme. Go to leesburgfirstfriday.com for details on everything happening downtown!

Friday, Dec. 1

Taylorstown Craft Fair
10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 13266 Taylorstown Road, Lovettsville
This annual fair just north of Leesburg offers handmade candles, pottery, jewelry, scarves, local honey and other unique gifts.

Christmas in Middleburg—Tree Lighting and Carols
5 p.m.
The Pink Box, Middleburg
The celebration kicks off with a tree-lighting and carols Friday at 5 p.m. at the Pink Box with additional events continuing on Saturday (see listing below). Visit the website for a complete schedule and details. Parking is $20 at Mickie Gordon Park or Salamander Resort.

Leesburg Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting
6 p.m.
Leesburg Town Green, 25 W. Market St., Leesburg
Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk will light the menorah and Christmas tree, followed by theater, dance and musical performances from area schools. Event is free and open to the public.

Lovettsville Lantern Workshop and Parade
6:30-9 p.m.
Lovettsville Community Center, 57 E. Broad Way, Lovettsville
Lovettsville kicks off the holiday season at the town Community Center with a lantern workshop from 6:30-7:15 p.m., followed by the traditional German lantern parade beginning at 7:30 p.m. The evening is capped off with a tree-lighting in the town square. Fee for the workshop is $8 per person and includes supplies. Advance registration is recommended.

On Stage: ‘A Christmas Carol’

Franklin Park Arts Center, 36441 Blueridge View Lane, Purcellville
Loudoun Centre Theatre presents Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale of redemption—a perfect post-Thanksgiving family outing. Tickets are $12 in advance, $16 at the door.

Saturday, Dec. 2

Christmas in Middleburg
8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Town of Middleburg
The day’s events start at 8 a.m. with breakfast at Middleburg Charter School followed by the Hunt and Hounds review at 11 a.m. The Christmas Parade starts at 2 p.m. on Washington Street, followed by a progressive wine, spirits and food tasting at local restaurants from 3 to 6 p.m. Visit the website for a complete schedule and details. Breakfast with Santa at West Belmont Place
8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.
West Belmont Place at The National, 18980 Upper Belmont Place, Leesburg
This popular event features a hot breakfast buffet, family photo with Santa, gingerbread decorating, reindeer food making, festive music and a movie. Cost is $23 per person 13 and over, $17 for children 3 to 12, free for children 2 and younger. Advance reservations are required.

Ida Lee Holiday Craft Show
