Happy Thanksgiving, Loudoun! No matter how you recognize the holiday, we at Get Out Loudoun and Loudoun Now wish you the most fabulous time, full of food, friends, family and fun! So, before the itis takes hold and you pass out for that oh-so-satisfying post-dinner nap, let’s get to that lattermost part—the fun!

Although it’s tempting to use this space to rail against the evils of capitalism and encourage you, dear readers, to eschew “Black Friday” and “Small Business Saturday” shopping extravaganzas in favor of spending time with friends, reading, hiking, sleeping… pretty much anything else, I would be remiss not to at least plug all the great opportunities to separate you from your cash at small Loudoun businesses this, the biggest shopping weekend of the year. If you must shop, at least tell the Targets, Costcos, Amazons and Walmarts of this world to take a back seat Friday and Saturday as you explore really real, independently owned, creative and fun Loudoun-based businesses! Many locations will have astonishing sales, promotional activities and giveaways both Friday and Saturday, so pull on those walking shoes (gonna need to work off a bit of that Thanksgiving dinner anyway!) and take some time to meander through a local shop or two. I am quite certain you’ll be enchanted by what you find.

More Holiday Stuff!

Perhaps after Thursday you’ll be ready to dive directly into the next major holiday headed our way—if that’s the case, more than a few activities have you covered. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make two appearances this weekend—one during Purcellville Gateway’s tree lighting Saturday evening, and another as fanciful carriage rides are offered throughout the weekend at Village at Leesburg.

This is also a great time to catch a performance of Loudoun Centre Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol,” on throughout this weekend and next. (Good to get that reminder to avoid being a Scrooge in before it’s too late!)
