Arise and awake from your candy coma, Loudoun, for another weekend of fun is here! You’ll want to make the most of this one, as Sunday marks the official end of Daylight Savings Time, meaning we’ll have less daylight to pack with exciting activities. So, bathe in the remaining glorious light of the summer as you enjoy the upcoming weekend!

 It’s First Friday, Y’all!

There’s something about the buzz in downtown Leesburg during First Friday activities that’s truly intoxicating. With practically every storefront hosting live music or some activity, there’s a sense you’re wandering through an immense house party, with each room offering a different and vivacious vignette. Notable attractions for November’s First Friday installment include an appearance by P. Buckley Moss at Medlin Art Gallery (6-9 p.m.); a teen poetry slam (7-9 p.m. at 103 Loudoun St SW); and the grand opening celebration of downtown’s newest art gallery, The Fine Gallery, from 6-9 p.m. at 9 Royal St. SW. Meet the Maestra

It’s not every day that a community gets the chance to weigh in on who best wields the conductor’s baton, so Saturday evening offers a real treat for anyone with even a passing interest in classical music. As the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra brings its search for a new conductor to a close, it will host a series of concerts featuring the three finalists for the position. The first is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Broad Run High School and features conductor Nancia D’Alimonte leading the program, “We’re Traveling Abroad.” D’Alimonte will take the audience on a tour of Germany, France and Russia with selections including the Overture from St. Paul’s Oratorio by Mendelssohn, “Suite Algeriénne” by Saint-Saëns, and Symphony No. 2, “Little Russian,” by Tchaikovsky. Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for seniors, with children ages 12 and younger admitted free of charge—you can save your seat here. The next conductor showcase isn’t until the end of February, so don’t miss this exciting opportunity!
