Righteous Rummaging

This weekend marks the 79th Annual Inova Ladies Board Rummage Sale, arguably the biggest such sale in the mid-Atlantic area. Saturday and Sunday the grounds and barns of Morven Park’s equestrian center will be transformed to accommodate piles of clothing, furniture, household goods, children’s items, holiday decorations, books and much, much more. It’s difficult to overstate the expansive nature of this sale—the Ladies Board spends months collecting donations and still longer sorting through and organizing items for easy shopping. Indeed, visitors will find everything from high-end designer clothing to deep bargains on children’s duds, impressive antiques, weird wall hangings, jewelry and doubtless some strange item your humble writer cannot even conceive here. Hours for the sale are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday—those who wish to get a jump on their shopping experience are invited to take advantage of the early bird hour, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday. These motivated shoppers will pay $12 in advance or $15 at the gate for the privilege of thumbing through all the goods before everyone else—regular-hour shoppers are admitted free of charge. Go to ladiesboard.org for additional details and happy shopping!

Don’t Let Me Down—Come Together for Beatles Tunes!

Arguably one of history’s best and most well-regarded bands, The Beatles still command the attention of millions of fans almost 50 years after their final studio album release. If you happen to belong to this large and ever-expanding club, you’ll doubtless be interested in attending Saturday’s Beatles Sing Along Costume Party! From 7-9:30 p.m., lovers of The Beatles are invited to dress in their favorite Beatles-themed costume and join other enthusiasts for an evening of music, signing and laughter. Anyone who plays an instrument is invited to bring it along and lend their talents to the sing along soundtrack, or, simply show up, mop-top carefully coiffed, and be ready to belt out your favorite Beatles tunes. Songbooks will be provided—the gathering will be held at the Leesburg United Methodist Church, 107 W. Market St. in Leesburg. Admission is free to all, but RSVPs are requested to 301.639.7608.
