Folks it’s Labor Day weekend, meaning many of us will be enjoying an extra day of relaxation! While this writer encourages you to take at least one of those days, if you can, and devote it to nothing but sleep, lazing about, eating and more sleeping, as you’ll see, there’s plenty going on to occupy those other days of freedom!

It’s First Friday, Y’all!

Choose from upwards of 50 activities all going on during First Friday, Sept. 1, in downtown Leesburg. Highlights include a mini-concert at Home Helpers of Leesburg (101 Loudoun St. SE), where guests will enjoy a preview of the big BENEFIT show planned for Sept. 16. The main event, formerly known as Loudoun LIVE, will feature some of the area’s biggest names in music (Todd Wright, Juliana MacDowell, drumfish and many others) in an effort to raise money for various community needs. Friday, several of these musicians will give audiences a tiny taste of what’s in store just a couple short weeks from now. Over at 9 Royal St. SW, check out Leesburg’s newest art gallery, The Fine Gallery. The spot will feature wine tasting from the Ashburn Wine Shop and a mixed-media exhibit by New York artist, Anthony Young. Like cats? Stop by Photoworks at 2A West Loudoun St. to enjoy a host of photographs by talented mother/daughter photographers Doris and KD Kidder featuring, you guessed it, cats! Chill blues tunes will liven up the background, courtesy of Fast Eddie and Dave the Hippieman. All this and more is on tap between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. this Friday throughout downtown Leesburg! Wander about the main plaza where you’ll find dozens of area artisans and their creations—everything from textiles to art, pottery and more! After, enjoy a drink or snack at any of One Loudoun’s fantastic restaurants, or grab a movie at Alamo Drafthouse.

Happy Birthday, The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards!

Get in on some sweet anniversary action from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday as The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards celebrates five years in business. Enjoy tasty wine all day, accompanied by live music from Steve George & Friends. The first 100 lucky guests will enjoy delicious pork sliders, gratis, courtesy of Smokin’ Willy’s—don’t worry, they’ll stay to barbecue on for the rest of the event, or until the food runs out… you just have to pay for it after those first 100 sammies. Eventually there will even be birthday cake to share, so bring the whole family to enjoy the celebration!
